Bhasha Daan is an initiative that was launched by Prime Minister of India Narendra Damodar das Modi at the inauguration of the Digital India Week in 2022 at Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

Bhasha Daan  is defined as One platform, multiple crowdsourcing initiatives for Indian languages. The platform invites to contribute data to develop Speech Recognition, Text-to-Speech, Machine Translation, and Optical Character Recognition for Indian languages. Your contribution will help in creating an open repository of speech data, parallel translations, and labeled images.

The aim of this initiative is to create large open datasets for different Indian languages, which can be after used to train AI models for use by different users to create services or products and to break the barrier between various Indian tongue.

What is Bhashini? 

The term Bhashini is defined as a mission to translate local language and that mainly aims to break the barrier between various Indian languages by using different available technologies.  

This government platform aims to make AI and NLP resources available in the public domain to be used by -- Indian MSMEs, startups, and individual innovators.  

It helps the developers to offer all Indians easy access to the internet and digital services in their native languages. 
 

Bhashini Mission: 

Concept: 

  • The term Bhashini is defined as a small team at the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY), that is currently building a WhatsApp-based chatbot that relies on information generated by ChatGPT to return appropriate responses to queries. 

  • And because in the rural areas, people are farmers and they may not always want to type out their queries, questions can be asked on the chatbot through voice notes. 

  •  The official said that to build such a language model, it needs a large dataset of the various local languages spoken in India on which the model can be trained. 

  • This initiative called Bhasha Daan comes into the picture and the main objective of this project is to crowdsource voice datasets in multiple Indian languages. 

  • On the project’s website, people can contribute in three key ways:  

    1. by recording their voice samples in multiple Indian languages by reading out a piece of text, 

           2. typing out a sentence being played,  

           3.  translating text in one language into another. 

 

What is UPI 123 Pay? 

  • The UPI 123 pay is the instant payment system that will allow users to make UPI transactions without an internet connection.  

  • The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) launched the UPI 123 pay payment System. 

  • Transactions through UPI 123Pay can be done through voice response-based payment solutions, missed calls, sound-based technology, and payment apps.
