What is the Mission of Digital India?

Digital India is an initiative of the Indian Government for providing internet networks with high speed to rural areas. The main mission of Digital India focuses on three areas:
  1. Providing infrastructure digitally as a source of utility to all the citizens.
  2. On-demand governance and services.
  3. For looking after every citizen’s digital empowerment.
Moreover, digital India helps in the inclusive growth of products, electronic services, job opportunities, and manufacturing. The main aim of Digital India is to provide thrust to the nine pillars of the growth areas. Below is the list of all the nine pillars of Digital India:

1. Universal Access to Mobile Connectivity: This is the initiative that focuses on network penetration and filling the gaps in the country’s connectivity.

2. Public Internet Access Program: There are two sub-components of the Public Internet Access program i.e. Common Services Centres (CSCs) and Post offices as multi-service centers.

3. Broadband Highways: This has three sub-components i.e. Broadband for all Urban, Broadband for all Rural, and National Information Infrastructure (NII).

4. e-Kranti: This is the electronic Delivery of Services for improving the public services delivery and also simplifying the process of accessing them. Various e-governance initiatives have been undertaken by various Central Ministers and State Governments to usher in an era of e-Government.

5. e-Governance: Under this Reformation of Government through technology is done- Processing of the Re-engineering by the Government using IT to simplify and make the processing of the government more efficient is critical for the transformation to make the government’s services delivery more effective across different government domains and need to be implemented by all
Departments and Ministries.

6. Electronics Manufacturing: This pillar always focuses on the promotion of the manufacturing of electronics in the country.

7. Early Harvest Programmes: Under this pillar, there are groups of different short-term projects which immediately affect the Indian Digital ecosystem like IT platform for crowd Sourcing of eGreetings, mass messaging, biometric attendance in the offices of government, all universities WI-FI, etc.


Main Objectives of Digital India:

The main objective of Digital India is “Power to Empower”. The three components of digital India are digital delivery of services, digital infrastructure creation, and digital literacy. Below are the main objectives of Digital India:
1. For providing high-speed internet for all gram panchayats.
2. For providing easy access to CSC (Common Service Centre) in all the localities.
3. It is the initiative that combines a large number of ideas and thoughts into a single, comprehensive vision so that each of them is seen as part of a larger goal.
4. The Digital India Programme focuses on restructuring many existing schemes that should be implemented in a synchronized manner.

Digital India Mission Advantages:

Below are some of the main Digital India Mission Advantages:
  • It has increased the electronic transactions related to e-governance.
  • CSC (Common Service Center) is made under the National e-Governance Project of the Indian Government which provides access to communication technology (ICT) and information.
  • A 2,74,246 km optical fiber has been connected to over 1.15 lakh Gram Panchayats under the Bharat Net program.
  • Internet data is the major tool for the delivery of services and urban penetration of the internet has reached 64%.
 

Initiatives of Digital India:

The Government has created initiatives under the Digital India campaign. Below are some of the initiatives for Digital India:
  • E-Hospitals: It is HMIS (Hospital Management Information System) and it is a one-stop solution for connecting patients, doctors, and hospitals through a single digital platform.
  • DigiLockers: This is a Flagship initiative that aims at ‘Digital Empowerment’ of the citizen by providing access to authentic digital documents to the citizen’s digital document wallet.
  • BHIM: Bharat Interface for Money is an app that makes transactions of payment simple, quick, and easy using Unifies Payments Interface (UPI).
  • E-Pathshala- Developed by e-Pathshala, NCERT that showcases and disseminates all the educational e-resources that include audio, textbooks, video, periodicals, and a variety of other non-print and print materials through the mobile app and website.
