The Commission will hold Computer Proficiency Test (CPT), for the posts of Assistant Section Officer in CSS, MEA & AFHQ, Assistant in Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Assistant (GSI) in the Ministry of Mines, Inspector (Central Excise), Inspector (Preventive Officer) & Inspector (Examiner) in CBIC.

SSC CPT Exam consists of 3 Sections:
Rules:
- Duration of each module will be 15 minutes. These modules will be conducted one after the other
- The CPT will be conducted in the manner decided by the Commission for the purpose. CPT is qualifying in nature and qualifying in all the three Modules will be mandatory.
Word Processing - For this test Candidates will be given a printed english passage that has to be typed in the computer system . This has to be done not in Microsoft Word but t a software of their own . The candidate does not have to format the paragraph or make it in bold/italics etc. He / She has to just type the given paragraph given.Candidates have to to type 2000 characters (depressions) in 15minutes. Candidates should refrain from making errors in typing because this test will be judged on the basis of mistakes committed . Only a certain percent of mistakes are allowed.

Spreadsheets - Candidates will be asked to work on Microsoft Excel Software and create a spreadsheet as provided by to them. Candidates need to be informed about the formulas used in Excel because they will be asked to perform basic calcutions .One needs to have a basic understanding of MS Excel to get through this test . 15minutes will be provided to the candidates .
Generation of slides -Candidates will be given a printed sheet showing a print out of a single slide that has to created in Microsoft Powerpoint. Candidates need to be informed about the use of header, footer, inserting date/time and file address to get through this test . 15minutes will be provided to the candidates .
NOTE:
- No exemption from CPT is allowed for any category of PwD candidates. PwD candidates who are eligible for scribes will be allowed additional compensatory time of 5 (five) minutes in CPT. Only those VH candidates who opt for scribes in the written examination will be provided passage reader at the time of CPT.
- CPT is of qualifying nature. The marks obtained by candidates here will not be counted in merit but who do not qualify will not be considered for the job.
Data Entry Skill Test (DEST)- SSC DEST Exam is for those canidates who get selected in Tier-2 of SSC CGL Entrance exam for the post of Tax Assistant (TA)(Central Excise & Income Tax)
This test is exactly similar to Module 1 of the Computer Proficiency Test (CPT) , the only exception is that here in this test SSC specifies clearly that a candidate has to make 2,000 depressions in 15 minutes - this should be the minimum speed. undertaken by the candidate.

- Candiadtes should refrain from making errors in typing because this test will be judged on the basis of mistakes committed . Only a certain percent of mistakes are allowed.
- The test shall be qualifying in nature. Candidates who do not qualify will not be considered for the job.
- OH candidates opting for the post of Tax Assistant in CBDT are exempted from appearing in Skill Test, provided such candidates submit a Certificate in the prescribed format (Annexure-XIV) to the Commission from the competent Medical Authority, i.e., the Civil Surgeon of a Government Health Care Institution declaring him/ her to be permanently unfit for the Typing Test because of a physical disability. OH candidates opting for post of Tax Assistant in CBEC are not exempted from Skill Test. HH and VH candidates are not eligible for exemption from the Skill Test.
- PwD candidates who are eligible for scribes as per para-7.1 and 7.2 of the Notice of Examination will be allowed additional compensatory time of 5 (five) minutes in DEST. Only those VH candidates who opt for scribes in the written examination will be provided passage reader at the time of Skill Test.
- The Skill Test will be held at the Commission’s Regional Offices or at other Centres as may be decided by the commission.
- Detailed instructions regarding Skill Test will be provided by the Regional Offices of the Commission to eligible candidates declared qualified for appearing in Skill Test.
