On Saturday, Chief Minister Stalin requested Prime Minister Modi to scrap all national level tests such as the NEET and allow Tamil Nadu to fill professional seats, including MBBS, based on class 12 results.
Panneerselvam has now backed the DMK government's position and urged that the tests be canceled.
Former deputy chief minister Panneerselvam wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, claiming that late AIADMK head J Jayalalithaa had fiercely opposed NEET and that the AIADMK government (2011-21) had fought it all along, with two bills being passed in the Assembly in 2017, but to no avail.

He then went on to describe the difficulties experienced by Tamil Nadu pupils, particularly those from socially and economically disadvantaged backgrounds. He went on to say that separate coaching was required to take the exam because it was based on the NCERT-CBSE curriculum and children could not afford the fees charged by coaching centers.
According to the AIADMK leader, NEET has made it impossible for candidates from the state's marginalized populations to continue medical education.
He noted that the recent approval of 11 medical colleges in Tamil Nadu, in addition to the AIIMS in Madurai, and the abolition of the CBSE board test for the 12th grade were well received and appreciated.
"Take a unified policy decision to abolish not only the NEET for enrolment in medical institutions but also the common admission examinations for all professional and other courses forever," he urged PM Modi.
"For which act of generosity, the people of Tamil Nadu will always be grateful to you (PM Modi)," he added, the Centre should allow states to offer admissions based on student's grades in their higher secondary exams.
