How is the UPSC IAS cutoff calculated?

Following the announcement of the final results, i.e., the interview, the Commission announces the UPSC IAS cut-off score. It calculates the IAS cut-off score based on a variety of parameters such as the number of applicants who applied, the number of vacancies declared, the number of reservations mandated for category students, and so on.

Candidates that receive less than the cutoff score are not chosen by the commission. Furthermore, only the GS-I paper is included while calculating the UPSC cutoff because the GS-II paper is qualifying in nature and is not counted for merit.

The UPSC Civil Services Exam (CSE) is commonly regarded as one of the most difficult exams to pass, owing to the small number of openings and a large number of applications. Real competition, on the other hand, is far less. Furthermore, UPSC CSE is a low-scoring game. Any serious applicant who prepares strategically by combining knowledge with the appropriate tactics will easily pass the UPSC Civil Services Exam. You only need to work hard and be smart.
