4) Creating self-initiating projects:

Let's look at some of the steps which could be initiated to develop creative skills to be a well-recognized graphic designer:

1) Studying the history of design:
Studying the history of anything you read or seek to learn is very crucial. A person will not be able to come up with innovative ideas unless he is aware of the history of the elements and each aspect of the design so before beginning to learn design get some books on the history of design and study where the movements, ideas, and concepts came from. History allows the person to know the usage and application of each element.

2) Learn the fundamentals of design:

As we know that graphic designing is a unique blend of science and art, so to be proficient on the art side, it's important to learn the basics of visual art like composition, balance, colour, form, materials, and all such things that go into how humans visually perceive things. Graphic design books are also a great source of learning specific skills and refining the design processes. People must also have the proper knowledge regarding the principles of design to ensure that different elements are well connected. Balance, alignment, proximity, repetition, and contrast are the major principles that a person must take into consideration while making a design. There are several courses that teach these fundamentals very easily and clearly.

3) Learn Sketching:

Even though the sketch is a very crucial component of designing, it is considered a highly underrated skill. Today, a lot of designers directly go to the computer and it takes longer to get design out on a computer than it does through a quick thumbnail sketch so it is always encouraged to keep a sketchbook and sketch all the time. This method enables the person to sketch all the ideas coming into the mind associated with a concept much more efficiently and quickly rather than on a computer. Sketching helps the designers shape their ideas into a final shape by dragging them out of the imagination and visualizing them. Moreover, sketching has no limit and could be done at any place and time so it also allows sketching the thought or idea whenever it strikes the mind.

4) Creating self-initiating projects:

Creating independent projects enables the person to come up with his/her unique ideas instead of following the guidelines of another person who wants the design to be in his/her way.  Working under someone hinders the opportunity to improve the designing skills and developing own unique signature style. Working on your self-directed designs provides the person to open their imagination and mould creativity in the way he/she wants rather than fulfilling the criteria and standards fixed by someone else. Suppose a designer is specialized in making logos and wants to design brochures and annual reports, then their time could be invested in learning and making out samples that are in alignment with the type of work a person wants to do.
