"I never intended to specialize too much in my work." I want diversity in design and enjoy experimenting with different styles and working on a variety of projects." Graphic design education provides valuable abilities that may be used in a range of creative jobs. This job title can encompass a wide variety of responsibilities in a wide range of sectors. So, how does that work in practise? Ruane worked as a graphic designer for a technology magazine, where he created magazine layouts, some advertising, print production, and some web design. Lewin worked for a video game publishing business as a senior graphic designer, developing and art directing video game titles. "I worked on everything from concepting and art directing the 'Just Dance 2019' ad to producing the campaign imagery featured on packaging."

Creative director

A project's creative vision is determined by the creative director. They ensure that the overall aesthetic and coherent look remain on track by directing their team through the stages to produce anything, whether it is a concrete product such as a video game, film, or magazine or something more abstract such as an advertising campaign or brand identity. The work requires managerial skills, leadership, budgeting and time management talents, and creative vision. As an associate creative director at a digital ad agency, Ruane's responsibilities included concepting with a copywriter partner, proposing and presenting concepts, and overseeing a team of designers and art directors while still participating in the visual design.

Designer of user experience (UX)

UX designers strive to make goods, processes, and services for consumers as frictionless, pleasurable, and intuitive as possible. They consider how the product will feel and how people will interact with it. They guarantee that the product moves smoothly from one phase to the next. UX designers may conduct user testing to iron out any kinks or misunderstandings. This job requires a lot of creative thinking, intuition, and a natural understanding for seamless design. This design discipline is frequently found in online design, as corporations are emphasising the need of ensuring their website designs are both aesthetically beautiful and easy to use.
While user experience design has been around for much longer, according to Ruane, the profession of UX designer became more prominent roughly 10 years ago. When that happened, several of his graphic design classmates went on to work in UX. This is a good profession for tech-savvy designers because it frequently demands a combination of design and web technology expertise.

Designer of user interfaces (UI)

UI design is sometimes seen as a subset of UX design, with similar overarching aims. User interface designers concentrate on the layout of the product. They create each screen and page, ensuring that the layout aesthetically aligns with the general route established by a UX designer. Each screen or page that a user interacts with is designed by a UI designer, who ensures that the UI graphically conveys the route that a UX designer draws. They may select where material should appear on an analytics dashboard or which features are most useful to a user traversing a page. They also pay great attention to stylistic coherence and product consistency.

Production artist

Production artists handle the hands-on aspects of production, whether in graphics, cinema, art, or other media. They upload and check design files for correctness during the final phases of development. The work requires both design and computer application skills. Production artists may provide suggestions for enhancements to the work they are completing as well as final touches such as scaling, cropping, retouching, and repositioning. "If you start as a junior designer or a production artist at an agency, you'll get to work with a dozen individuals in strategy, technology, development, animation, data, UX, analytics, and more," adds Ruane. He notes that internships like these might help you gain exposure to a wide range of occupations. You could discover that you appreciate a certain aspect of the procedure. "Alternatively, if you stick to pure visual design, you'll be a better designer for having worked with these associated professionals."

Product creator

Product developers create, lead, and manage product development. Their employment duties will vary greatly because they may work on so many various topics, but common jobs include completing industry research, generating graphics, presenting the product to employers or stakeholders, and participating to the development process. This position may be related to graphic design. Find Me a Gift's senior graphic designer and product developer is Damien Cunningham. "It's my favourite since the position is diversified and allows me to work across departments and on a variety of duties," Cunningham says. "One day, I may be generating digital marketing materials and the next, I could be manufacturing packaging for print or designing a new product."

Director of Visual Arts

In publications, newspapers, product packaging, and film and television projects, art directors are in control of the visual style and content. They plan and direct the development of each contributing item by other artists. They collaborate closely with their employers or clients to create an aesthetic vision that satisfies objectives, financial constraints, and intended impact. Ruane worked as an art director for a few digital advertising businesses, where he created visual designs for websites and online advertising campaigns. This role was a high point in his career. "It was really thrilling and motivating at the time," Ruane adds. "Big brands, high-profile work, plenty of energy, and, as it turned out, a fantastic networking frenzy that resulted in contacts I now rely on for my business."

Marketing Professional

Marketing professionals gather and evaluate data on target customers, launch marketing campaigns, assess the efficiency of marketing efforts, and devise strategies to promote their organization and its goods or services.
As you may have seen, many of these graphic design jobs come under the bigger category of marketing. Cunningham believes that because of the particular skills they provide, more graphic designers should choose job titles in the marketing sector.
"The position often calls for someone who is multi-skilled, who can work across various areas of design, and who is willing to push themselves and develop new abilities," Cunningham adds. "A profession in marketing allows designers to use their abilities to a wide range of responsibilities such as digital and print graphics, branding, and social media."

Animator or multimedia artist

Multimedia artists and animators use computer animation or modeling applications to create intricate images and animation. To generate media material that will satisfy their employer's objectives, they consider story development, visual impact, and platforms. As more corporations and organizations seek to expand their online video presence, graphic designers with animation and motion graphics talents have benefited.

Freelancer

While not a distinct design job in and of itself, the majority of the job titles listed above may be performed as a freelancer. Designers with some experience, a great portfolio of work, or competence in particular areas like design, marketing, and graphics may be able to develop a career seeking freelance employment. However, freelancing is also a great way to supplement your income while simultaneously expanding your knowledge. Ruane claims that he worked on side projects with small customers on a wide variety of project types throughout his career. "There's a lot of 'figure-it-out-as-you-go' with freelancing, and continued education is quite important," adds Ruane.
