Objective Type Written Test (Pen Paper Mode) (Multiple Choice Questions)
NDA is a national level exam conducted by Union Public Service commission (UPSC) to recruit candidates for Army, Navy and Air Force. The exam is divided into two parts as NDA(1) and NDA(2) and is conducted twice a year
To be eligible to apply for NDA, a candidate must be:
(1) A citizen of India, or;
(2) A subject of Nepal, or;
(3) A subject of Bhutan, or;
(4) A Tibetan refugee who came over to India before1 January, 1962, with an intention to permanently settling in India or;
(5) A person originally Indian who may have migrated from Burma, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, The United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia or Vietnam with an intention to permanently reside in India.
(* Provided the candidates belonging to category (2), (3), (4), (5) shall have certificate of eligibility issued in their favour by the Govt. of India.
However, Certificate of eligibility will not be necessary for the candidates who are Gorkha subjects of Nepal.)
The educational qualification to get admitted into NDA is as follows:
The Army Wing of NDA | The candidate must have passed class 12 or equivalent examination from a recognised board. |

• To be eligible for NDA (1), candidates should not be born earlier than 2nd July, 2001 and not later than 1st July, 2004.
• To be eligible for NDA (2), candidates must not be born earlier than 2nd January, 2002 and not later than 1st January, 2005
• A candidate must be aged between 16.5 years to 19 years to be eligible for NDA exam.
• The commission will consider the Date of Birth as mentioned on Class 10 or 12 certificate
• Candidates are expected to submit these required certificates after declaration of results of written exam.
(Only unmarried male candidates are eligible to apply for the exam. Candidates are not allowed to get married their training is complete. If any candidate decides to get married during his training period then he is discharged and then is required to refund all the expenditure spent on him to the government.)

The exam pattern of NDA exam is as follows:
The first exam i.e. a written test is an offline pen-paper based exam. The exam is an Objective type or MCQ based exam which is divided into two parts, namely Mathematics and General Ability Test. The test is of 900 marks and comprises of 270 questions overall.
